Food and Feed Hygiene and Quality Control Branch
The implementation of the Food Act/Regulation and the Feed Act/Regulation is the main objective of this branch. The major functions of this branch are as follows:
• To conduct market monitoring/inspection in coordination with various agencies from time to time for the effective implementation of the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081; Food Regulation, 2027; Feed Act, 2033; and Feed Regulation, 2041.
• From time to time, food/feed inspectors shall collect samples of suspected food and feed items being sold/distributed in the market and send them to the laboratory for analysis.
• If any adverse results are observed during the laboratory analysis of the samples, legal proceedings shall be initiated as per the prevailing Acts and Regulations.
• In the case of food and feed industries, to provide recommendations requested for industry establishment and to conduct/ensure inspection and facilitation required for issuing licenses before production.
• To address/resolve complaints or grievances received from consumers in a proper manner by coordinating with the concerned stakeholders and in accordance with the prevailing Acts and Regulations.
• To work actively by coordinating with concerned stakeholders during festival-targeted monitoring activities conducted from time to time.
• To maintain records of the activities carried out.
